Here's My Catch Up Special

Man what a few days I've had.... I had to forsake some time writing in my blog for a research paper and a presentation due later this week. But that's okay! I just uploaded some pictures and I am going to go over what I've been doing.

On Tuesday, my Professoressa Sara took us to Palazzo Vecchio. This was the palace that Cosimo I de'Medici lived in while basically in control over Florence. The rooms were so innate and the frescos were beautiful. In this first grand room,  I couldn't help but laugh at a painting on the ceiling that basically depicted Cosimo as god. Of course he did...

It was really amazing to walk around a house that nobles from centuries ago lived in. That was there home! And what a beautiful place. I was really fascinated by one room that was full of maps of the territories in the world at that point. These maps covered all of the walls. Simply amazing.

Then on Wednesday, the class went to Santa Croce in Florence. I was so excited to see this church! I had just given a presentation over it the day before. Unfortunately, our time in the church was slightly rushed. The church is absolutely beautiful. And it is one of the biggest churches still to this day.

So many places here are littered with graves. I did not even realize while walking through the church that all of the floor was dotted with memorials of those buried beneath the church. It does not feel right to walk on them....

Sorry if I look goofy mom.
Standing in these places makes everything so much easier to appreciate. I read about these landmarks or these priceless pieces of art in school, and I honestly couldn't grasp the beauty of it. But standing there, seeing every detail, and realizing that these were all built or created in a time more primitive than what I live in now, where everything was made by hand, truly humbles me. I can't imagine such art, whether paintings, frescos, or architecture, as magnificent as what I've seen here being created in the time we live in now.

I meant to write more, but I think I'll write about our day trips to Pisa, Lucca, and Chianti tomorrow.
Love you mom, dad, and Fonz. Weirdly enough, we're already halfway through my trip! Don't be surprised if I don't board the plane home.
